An Apple Valley city employee was arrested for suspicion of drunk driving at a Pee Wee hockey game for 11-13 year olds.

The man was operating the Zamboni and came under suspicion after a parent noticed that he was weaving and slurring his words. It was also reported that he was driving the Zamboni unpredictably and ran into the boards during an ice resurfacing. A coach called the police and officers arrived just as the man was pulling the Zamboni into the garage after the resurfacing. The man failed field sobriety tests and was arrested. A blood-test was conducted, but results are not expected for several weeks. Formal charges are not likely until the blood test results are ready.

The man has three previous drunk driving convictions, one from 2002 and two from 1999. If charged and convicted, the man may be sentenced up to 365 days in jail and be required to pay a fine of up to $3,000 or both. In addition, if his test results come back over the legal limit of 0.08, he could face a driver’s license revocation of 4 years.
